Stage 9- Evanston
Last stage.
Not too bad of a drive down from Milwaukee. Nice day, like all week really, 80ish, sunny, low wind. Today's course was another twisty thing. 6 corners, but it almost came back on itself like a figure 8. Fun course. Flood and I were talking on the way to the race about how we were both tired of racing. 9 days in a row. I could never understand those pros that would start a race and just sort of roll around for a few laps and then pull out..... well today I could. I didn't have it in me. If Hareland wasn't in the overall I would have skipped the race for sure; but I thought I'd get out there, help Hareland, hopefully he'd get in a break (like yesterday) and I'd head to the car.
I got my shit on, rolled around, warmed up and went to the line.... bla, bla, bla... so tired.... so bored.... GO!!!! It was wierd. All of a sudden I was ready to race and actually felt good. They were a bit behind so I think they shaved a few laps off our race. It's strange, there seems to be a big difference in 35 laps to go, compared to 25 laps to go.
To make a long story short, it was fast, the field stuck together, no major attacks, nothing too concerning. It came down to a field sprint and the guy in 4th overall won....... luckily Hareland sprinted in at 4th and preserved his podium spot by 1 point! NIIIICE! Like I said I felt like I had good legs today and sprinted in for 8th, which is just where I ended up in the overall, 8th.
We stuck around to collect our money and for the big payoff.... the Overall Podium! Below:

A couple things real quick though; we had finished the race, talked to a bunch of people, dicked around, finally went up to the car, changed, came back down, I forgot my camera, went back up to the car, came back down, Flood and I went and got a Jamba Juice, walked back to the Start/Finish, and apparently the Florida guy in second didn't even have enough time to take off his gloves? There was ALOT of that kind of stuff this week.
Lots of fun. There'll be a recap coming soon.
