Stage 8- Waukesha
Dog Fucking
Sorry everyone. Saturday just sort of got away from us and I forgot to update, and then Sunday we were traveling all day (Milwaukee to Chicago to Rochester to Mpls.), and then I realized I had forgotten my computer back in Milwaukee. Thank you Mom and FedEx, for getting it back to me so quickly.
I know many of you already know the result, but I will post anyway to complete the historical record. Due to Hareland's win yesterday, things were tightening up in the overall, however we were just running out of time. Hareland was picking up a point or two a day, but that wasn't going to do it. He was about 13 or 14 behind the leader and about 6 or 7 behind second; 4th was like 15 behind Hareland.
The course was a fun, twisty 6 corner course in old downtown Waukesha. Good crowd, open restaurants, etc., etc. Good atmosphere. It was 80, sunny, and not much wind. The race started off super fast, and was pretty strung out for the first couple laps. I looked up and our guy Wojo was at the front turning the screws.
About a half lap later there was a gap, the field had split about 15 guys ahead of me. There's was what looked like 10 guys or so up the road, all the overall players. I drifted back and asked Flood if he knew if Hareland was up there. Just then Hareland comes up the other side of the train. FUCK!
This break was going and we needed to do something. I jumped up to the front and put my head down for about a lap or so and got Hareland within striking distance, he was going to have to bridge on his own. He took off and after another lap or so he made it across a pretty tough bridge. Well that narrowly averted complete disaster. About a half lap later Wojo came off the break and back to the field. 12 guys up the road. We showed up with 5 guys (Flood, AP, me, Wojo, and Hareland) and only get 1 in the break. This sucked.
I guess Hareland was getting worked over in the break and eventually a little group got off the front of that and lapped the field. So only 3 or 4 guys lapped, which caused a little confusion. I was at the front trying to keep things under control and Flood was at the back waiting for Hareland. That group never got around.
Anyway, we sprinted in, Hareland was 7th or so I was 17th (pays 18 deep) and we didn't get any real points on anyone, in fact the guy in 4th closed to within 5 of Hareland. We fucked the dog today.
Highlight of the race was AP was dangling off the front and they rang a $50 prime. He gritted his teeth and hung on that next lap to get the prime. After the race he bought lunch. Thanks buddy!
Sunday was the final 30 plus stage in Evanston, Il. We've come this far, why not finish it up!!!
